The nuclear power issue *

Nuclear source is always an important concern in all corners of the world. This happens just because it doesn’t have only advantages. There are crucial factors that each country has to consider. I’m against this kind of source and I’ll explain why.

First of all, in theory, the dangers are small when the nuclear power is chosen and a plant is installed in a place. Studies show the chance of accident is low because based in the recent Fukushima case, when there was a big nuclear fission, this only happened because there also was at same time the fiftth biggest earthquake in the history of Japan. Which could lead us to believe that the imminent problems of nuclear are only the earthquakes and the lack of knowledge about this subject, since the radiation is harmful to humans just if it arrives a level hundred times higher than normal.

On the other hand, if the human body is affected, it can suffer changes in its DNA cells. Also, there is the risk of contamination of human food chain through consumption of water, vegetables or meat. And according to the Brazilian expert Gilson Delgado, there is no possible treatment for the radiation effects.

Meanwhile, alternatively to nuclear, we can mention other energy sources, like wind power and solar energy, which don’t pollute or contaminate, and the worry about these sources is especially structural and financial.

All in all, personally I find that the nuclear power is dispensable in countries with capacity to develop clean energy. Therefore, the nuclear must to be the lowest priority source, remembering that in the history there were at least 3 nuclear accidents of medium or high proportions. So why risk it?
